The meet opens on the morning of Thursday 19 November and closes on the evening of Saturday 21 November.

The meet

Three days in November, and the whole campus on the field.

Anant Khel is the University’s annual sports meet, run by the Directorate of Physical Education. Every department fields its own side — there are no school teams and no mixed entries — and every medal won is a medal that counts toward where that department finishes.

Teams wear the colour of their department’s doctoral thesis. It is the oldest piece of identity the University has, and for three days in November it is a kit.

The table

Who is winning.

Five points for a gold, three for a silver, one for a bronze. These are the five in front; the other seventeen are on the results page.

Sample data. Every medal count was generated, and the points are then worked out from them by the real 5 / 3 / 1 rule, so at least the arithmetic is honest. Nothing here is a real result; it is in place so the page can be designed and approved before the meet.

  1. 1 Human Resources Management & Organizational Behaviour Business Studies 7 gold, 1 silver, 0 bronze. 38pts
  2. 2 Mathematics Basic & Applied Sciences 2 gold, 2 silver, 5 bronze. 21pts
  3. 3 Zoology Life Science 3 gold, 0 silver, 1 bronze. 16pts
  4. 4 Computer Science and Information Technology Basic & Applied Sciences 2 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze. 15pts
  5. 5 Public Policy and Public Administration Humanities & Social Science 0 gold, 4 silver, 2 bronze. 14pts

How it is won

Every final is worth five points.

Each event awards five points for a gold, three for a silver and one for a bronze. Nothing else scores. A department that enters everything and wins nothing finishes where it started, and a department that wins four finals beats one that reaches twelve.

  1. Gold5 points
  2. Silver3 points
  3. Bronze1 point

The Vice-Chancellor’s Cup

Departments score, and their schools inherit. Every medal a department wins is counted again for the school it belongs to, and the school that finishes on top takes the Vice-Chancellor’s Cup for the edition. Nine schools, twenty-two departments, one cup.
